School civil defense

I can remember those tile walls that made a school look like a big bathroom.

We did some CD drills and so on in grade school, but by the time I was in high school, schools had pretty much abandoned 1950's style CD. However a lot of schools were designed to serve as CD shelters, and lots of those buildings still remain.

One thing that has changed- almost no schools now have a shop or shop classes, they are too much of an insurance liability. After all, what insurance firm wants to take the risks associated with letting contemporary middle schoolers run dangerous woodworking machines?

Yes, back in the day, lots kids rode their bikes to school in good weather.
