Fire fighting for homeowners. 1950's

Back 60 years ago, a lot was expected of average people when the nuke war came. I doubt real people would have exhibited this level of calm, much less put out the fire without messing up their hair or dress. Still, these kinds of films gave people something to do and helped them maintain a sense of control during a stressful and paranoid era. Except for fire extinguishers, this kind of home firefighting equipment is not available any more. It's hard to imagine that a modern hand sprayer would help much with a major fire. There is also no discussion of smoke inhalation or using gas masks.
